cost of backpacking vietnam?

Hey, just want a little advice on the rough costs of backpacking vietnam? Am going with my wife so if anyone has backpacked with a partner and used shared accom i would love to hear what sort of prices you paid… and costs of meals… etc… thanks!

I just backpacked all across Vietnam with my wife. The travel can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it. Going by train is the cheapest route if you know where you want to go and when. The next cheapest is to simply take the public and or private buses that go through Vietnam. Typical bus ticket from major city to major city is around $15 per person or less (depending on the distance needed to travel of course). As far as hotels. . . look for signs that say nha nghi or nha tro. . . these are cheap guesthouses. They aren’t the greatest quality . . . but they are usually around 5-10 dollars for a night. Food is cheaper in more rural areas. Expect to pay about 2-4 dollars per person per meal in the cities if you are on a cheap budget. Rural areas again are much cheaper. . . meals are less than one dollar per person.

Just be careful who you listen to, foreigners are like walking dollar signs to people and they will try to take advantage of you. If you know where you want to go and when and have a general idea of the maps of where you stay you are a lot less likely to get conned
