How does the share price increase in a company’s stock?

The way I understand it, there has to be more buyers than sellers, more shares purchased than sold. But can a company just offer new shares at a higher price because they feel the price of the shares is worth more? How do the market makers decide to offer that stock at a higher or lower price in the secondary market?

This is done by brokers (corporate). A lot of new money is raised in the AIM market. Usually it is done in aprivate or institutional placing, so the existing shareholders don’t get a look in. It is usually done at a discount (slightly lower) to the market price. You may also get some manipulation (upwards ) of the share price by way of company/ broker presentations.If I was cynical I would suggest some stock is sold in the market prior to the placing being done and then repurchased at a lower price in the fund raising.
